Kotha Bangaru Lokam Addala debut with Srikanth had apparently spent two years working on the script of this film. The film must be planned with Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh, but the former has left the project, citing scheduling problems. Dil Raju confirmed in early January 2012, that Samantha was part of the project and must be combined against Mahesh Babu. Mickey J Meyer was the line to score the music. KV Guhan would have to handle the film, while Anantha Sreeram wrote the lyrics.
At May 31, 2012, Dil Raju held a press conference in Hyderabad and announced a look first 30 second teaser of the film on YouTube to coincide with the father of Mahesh Babu, actor Krishna's birthday. The trailer was released from active sites of social networks in its publication, and also had a positive response from the audience. Mahesh through his Twitter account confirms the response and thanked the film's producers. A few days after the release announcement was released excerpt from the film song by Aditya music. Three posters and stills first look of the film was published on 8 August 2012. The three posters were of a message that said Venkatesh, signed "Happy Birthday to my brother Mahesh Babu. A second teaser of the film is scheduled for 9 month of August will be published in 2012, to coincide with the birthday of Mahesh Babu.

In March 2012, it was announced that popular Telugu film production company 14 Reels Entertainment has bought the overseas distribution rights of the film for an amount of 6 crores. It was reported that it was the highest amount ever paid for the overseas rights of a Telugu Movie. In June 2012, it was reported that the satellite rights of the film were sold to a leading Telugu channel for 8.5 crores.
